Following discussions with Thames Water about overflows from manhole covers at the Memorial Park in Sandhurst, I am pleased to report the work to clean and further investigative work is underway to resolve the problem.

As a keen angler, I believe that our local wildlife sites are an essential part of our country’s natural heritage, which should be protected for future generations.  Prior to 2010, no government had done anything to understand what was being put into our waterways.  Without measuring the science of what was going in you cannot put into place a lasting solution. Since 2010 it was this Conservative Government that has put in place measures to invest £54bn of new funding for our water infrastructure, significantly reduced the quantity, volume and content of phosphates into our outflows, imposed record fines for water companies, made sewage discharge a criminal offence, stopped shareholder dividends and introduced 100% monitoring of outflows.

In fact, this Government is the first – ever – to robustly tackle a serious historical problem, in stark contrast to the other main parties who have a track record of doing almost nothing when they had the opportunity to make a difference.
